What are the design possibilities with Timber Doors?
When crafted and manufactured with precision, wood can look beautiful and perform impeccably. It really is no surprise that timber has been a popular material choice for doors for thousands of years, and why we at Komfort love including them within our projects. Below are some examples of how timber/wooden doors can help uplift your designs.
Design complemented by performance
First off, timber is not only popular for its design possibilities but can be manufactured to achieve both impressive acoustic and fire performance; both of which can be key considerations for leading projects. Acoustic performance is becoming increasingly relevant with its associations to productivity, happiness and mental wellbeing, and when coupled with the stringent fire regulations that exist today, timber can be a sensible option. You can read more about the performance of our timber doors here.
Sustainability
In line with corporate responsibility, timber doors can be sourced sustainably and are renewable and biodegradable. Never have sustainable materials within building designs been as important as now. In line with the WELL Standards v2, it has been said that even being surrounded by natural materials can improve individual wellbeing, mental health and reduce stress levels.
Veneers and finishes
The beauty of timber means that these types of doors can be designed with a huge range of veneers and finishes. These can be used to complement and match the design, or even add contrast and intrigue. The choice really is yours.
Hardwood veneers are a very popular choice amongst designers to add character and visual appeal. These are available in a range of colours, patterns and orientations. It is even possible to have two different types of veneers within one design to create exciting patterns. To finish the veneers, there is also a range of options including a UV matt or satin clear lacquer application and even anti-microbial for hygiene purposes.
In addition, there is a range of finishes which can be used to enhance timber doors: from laminates in unlimited colours with a smooth or textured finish; PVC which is ideal for high-traffic areas and where hygiene is essential with its anti-microbial properties; alternatively, timber doors can be painted with the choice of full RAL colours available.
Vision panels
Whilst vision panels within doors may be required to meet safety requirements, they can equally maximise the best use of light, can add interest to the design, and are available in a range of different shapes and sizes. Go beyond the necessary and get creative using vision panels to enhance your design.
Configurations, dimensions and ironmongery
With using timber comes the added benefit of flexibility. Timber doors can be configured as single and double doorsets, hinged, sliding or pivot. When considering which door would suit your design, it is important to consider the building type, performance requirement and the user experience.
Timber door leaves can usually be manufactured up to a maximum width of 1200mm wide and normally up to 3000mm in height. However, there are some limitations, and we can’t satisfy both parameters to comply with fire certification and/or acoustic performance.
If you do require more information on dimensions and sizes beyond this, our dedicated timber door team will be happy to find a solution. Lastly, to complete your timber door design, there are a range of ironmongery options available. These include lever latch sets, back to pull handles and wireless access control.
At Komfort we have decades of experience manufacturing and supplying beautiful, competitive, bespoke and commodity doors. With doors being an integral component to any design, we encourage designers to bring their visions to life – no matter how bold, intricate or distinguished they may be.
