The Project at Barnfield College
Project Vision
The client envisioned state-of-the-art vocational teaching facilities as part of their new construction and engineering training building. A key element of this vision was modern, clean and light-filled workshop spaces for students, achieved through the integration of glazed screens. These spaces presented a unique challenge in balancing the desired aesthetic with the robust functionality required for a workshop environment, including accommodating large-format machinery and materials.
Komfort’s Solution
The project’s primary challenge was achieving the required acoustic and fire performance. Large openings for access necessitated the use of large-format double doors with fob access. The doors’ meeting stiles and closing mechanisms were critical to both acoustic and fire, requiring a thorough specification review to ensure compliance.
In collaboration with Service Group Interiors, a Komfort Partner, Komfort’s Defence EI 30 and EI 60 Fire Screens were installed providing a high level of fire protection as well as acoustic ratings of up to 52dB (Rw). The project was successfully completed on time and on budget.
